Tri Pak opened its doors in the mid 1980’s at the Union Pacific Reload site on Portland Avenue in Tacoma, WA with five employees. When Cory and Margaret Sonnen purchased Tri Pak in the late 90's they focused on growth. The two owners realized Tri Pak was seriously underutilizing the unique location of the Port of Tacoma. Tri Pak began to diversify their service line by handling import and export ocean containers. In 2001 Tri Pak opened a third location.
The next three years were spent strategically leasing or buying rare, rail served Port property and investing in three unique proprietary bulk conveyance systems. By 2000, with newly gained experience in ocean cargo, Tri Pak started to handle virtually any commodity passing through the Port including but not limited to bulk commodities, organic food grade, bagged, aggregate, coils, and liquid products, machinery and lumber. transloading, warehousing facility for bulk grains, bulk aggregates, lumber, building material, steel and roofing and a lot of other bulk and non-bulk materials.
The Company prides itself on the ability to take on all manner of items, including materials that are out of the ordinary. Due to specialized equipment and highly trained personnel, Tri Pak’s facilities are equipped to transload almost anything, whether bulk, united, loose or otherwise. Even the most difficult requests are honored. Tri Pak has built a reputation on its willingness and ability to handle requests like no other facility.
